The sale of Polk Elementary School to Venango County became official last week when the transaction was approved in Venango County Court.
The court ruling followed approval of the $250,000 offer by the county commissioners earlier in the week. The county plans to turn the facility into an enhanced personal care home where individuals with intellectual disabilities will be housed. Many of the new residents are currently lodged at Sugar Valley Lodge. Some reports have indicated that the cost of renovating the school will reach $175,000.
An earlier expected bid to purchase the property by the Grove City-Franklin YMCA was never submitted by that agency.
The Polk Elementary property was vacated last year after a decision by the Franklin Area School board which closed both the Polk school and Franklin’s Seventh Street Elementary School.
