The Pitt Panthers’ bowl game hopes are down to must-win scenarios for both of their remaining games.

That after they dropped a 34-31 decision to North Carolina (2-8; 1-6 ACC), a team with only one previous win, on Thursday night at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The Tar Heels’ Anthony Ratliff-Williams racked up 230 all-purpose yards by returning the game’s opening kickoff for a touchdown, throwing for a score and catching a three-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Elliott for the game-winner with 6:18 remaining.

Elliott completed 20-of-31 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for North Carolina since freshman quarterback Chazz Surratt went down with an injury.

Darrin Hall ran for 121 yards and four touchdowns for Pitt (4-6; 2-4 ACC), the fourth giving the Panthers a 31-27 lead with 9:58 left in the game.

Pitt will close out against Virginia Tech and Miami, both ranked in the nation’s Top 25.
