A blocked extra point by Outland Trophy semifinalist Aaron Donald made the difference on Saturday afternoon in Pitt’s 17-16 victory at Syracuse.

Donald also recorded 3.5 tackles for losses, helping Pitt (6-5) become “bowl-eligible.”  The Atlantic Coast Conference has been promised at least eight, and possibly ten, bowl game invitations.  Pitt and North Carolina both became eligible with victories Saturday.  Syracuse (5-6) must now beat Boston College to join the list of postseason hopefuls.

Pitt quarterback Tom Savage completed 28-of-41 passes for 218 yards, including a pass for a touchdown to Manasseh Garner.  Isaiah Bennett scored the winning TD on a 5-yard run on the final play of the third quarter.  Chris Blewitt added a field goal.

Pitt will finish the regular season with a 4:00 PM home game on Friday against Miami at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
