Becoming bowl-eligible with a 27-3 victory in their season final at South Florida on Saturday night, the Pitt Panthers (6-6) will be headed to the BBVA Compass Bowl for the third straight year.
Pitt will meet Mississippi (also 6-6) in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday, January 5th. The Rebels qualified with a 41-24 upset of rival Mississippi State.
Pitt, meanwhile, posted their win Saturday by holding South Florida (3-9) to four net rushing yards and just 109 yards through the air. Tino Sunseri completed 19-of-25 passes for 211 yards, including a touchdown pass to J.P. Holtz. Ray Graham rushed for 94 yards and two TD’s. Kevin Harper kicked a pair of field goals.
The Bulls’ only score came on a 26-yard field goal by Maikon Bonani with 9:55 remaining in the game.
