The Pitt Panthers (10-1) went scoreless from the floor for a period of 13:43 in the second half on Tuesday night, and lost for the first time this season, 44-43 to former Big East Conference rival Cincinnati in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Bearcats (8-2) were led by Justin Jackson with just 12 points, while Talib Zanna scored 12 for Pitt. Lamar Patterson added 11 for the Panthers, but missed a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left in the game with Pitt leading 43-42.
Titus Rubles scored the game-winner for Cincinnati on a put-back with four seconds remaining.
Pitt will host Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon and Albany on the afternoon of December 31 before starting their initial Atlantic Coast Conference schedule on January 4 at North Carolina State. The Albany and N.C. State games will air on ESPN Radio 1120.
