Tray Woodall scored 14 points and Dante Taylor added 10 on Wednesday night as the Pitt Panthers (22-7; 10-6 Big East) downed South Florida 64-44 in a Big East Conference home game.
For the Panthers, it was the ninth win in their last 12 games. The Bulls (10-17; 1-14) have lost 14 of their last 15.
Victor Rudd led South Florida with 16 points. Ten different Panthers players scored. Pitt will host Villanova on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Penn State Nittany Lions, led by 25 points from Jermaine Marshall, upset fourth-ranked Michigan 84-78 at Bryce Jordan Arena in State College.
D.J. Newbill added 17 points for Penn State (9-18; 1-14 Big Ten) in the Lions’ first conference win of the year, breaking an 18-game Big Ten losing streak. Tim Hardaway, Jr. paced Michigan (23-5; 10-5) with 19 points.
Penn State posted a win over a top-5 team for the first time since their victory over #5 North Carolina in the second round of the 2001 NCAA tournament.
