Pirates Win First Two In Grapefruit League Play

The Pittsburgh Pirates have opened preseason play with a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay and a 9-2 trouncing of Atlanta.  The Bucs take on the Minnesota Twins on Monday afternoon.

In Saturday’s Grapefruit League opener, Felix Pie recorded an RBI triple and scored on a single by Darren Ford, and Starling Marte singled, stole a base and scored on a ground ball.

Sunday, the Pirates opened play at the newly-remodeled McKechnie Field in Bradenton.  Clint Barmes homered and went 2-for-2 with two RBI’s, Ford was 2-for-3 with two RBI’s, and Clint Robinson tallied two hits, scored twice and drove home a run.  Starter James McDonald faced seven batters in two innings, allowing just one batter to reach on a walk.
