After losses earlier in the weekend to both the Baltimore Orioles and the Minnesota Twins, the Pittsburgh Pirates (6-10) posted preseason victories, using split squads, over both teams on Sunday.
Andrew McCutchen, Gaby Sanchez and Tony Sanchez all homered in a 7-4 victory over the Twins. Jonathan Sanchez made his first start of the preseason following three relief appearances, and allowed two runs and two hits in two innings.
A Nate McLouth error led to three unearned Pittsburgh runs in a 5-2 win over the Orioles. Pirates starter Gerrit Cole, the top pick in the 2011 draft, worked four innings allowed two runs on a home run by Ryan Flaherty, and surrendered four hits.
The Bucs will host the Orioles on Monday afternoon.
