The Pittsburgh Pirates held their first official workouts for pitchers and catchers in Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday.
Position players are expected to be ready to work out no later than Friday. The Bucs’ first preseason game is scheduled for Saturday, February 23.
The Pirates went 16-36 over their final 52 games of the 2012 season after standing at 63-47 on August 8, and finished at 79-83. So, the Bucs are looking to end a 20-year string of losing seasons, the longest futility streak in any North American professional team sport.
Pittsburgh’s regular season opener is scheduled for April 1.
