The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the waiver trade deadline Saturday by acquiring first baseman Justin Morneau from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder Alex Presley and future considerations, possibly a player-to-be-named later.
Morneau was the American League’s Most Valuable Player in 2006. This season he was hitting .259 with 17 home runs and 74 RBI’s in 127 games with the Twins.
The 28 year-old Presley hit .264 in 29 games with the Pirates this year. Spending most of the season with “AAA” Indianapolis, Presley’s 2013 minor league numbers included a .298 batting average, five home runs, 27 RBI’s and 17 stolen bases.
