The Pittsburgh Pirates managed just four hits in their Grapefruit League preseason finale on Thursday afternoon, but they managed to post a 2-1 win over the New York Yankees in a game played in Tampa.
The Bucs compiled a 13-18-1 record in Florida. They will face the Curve, their “AA” affiliate, in Altoona on Saturday afternoon, and then are scheduled to open the regular season against the Chicago Cubs on Monday afternoon at 1:35 PM at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Jeff Locke (3-1; 2.63 ERA) earned the win on Thursday, throwing six innings of scoreless, four-hit baseball with three strikeouts. James McDonald is scheduled to start in Altoona, with Pirates pitchers also taking the mound for the Curve. A.J. Burnett is slated as the Bucs’ opening day starter on Monday.
