PennDOT officials and the state’s Department of Environmental Protection announced Wednesday the details of the annual clean-up of roadways, trails and shorelines in Pennsylvania.
As part of this year’s Great American Clean-up of Pennsylvania effort that runs through May 31, registered events during “Pick It Up PA Days” from April 12 through May 5 will have access to free disposal at participating landfills.
PennDOT provides gloves, trash bags and safety vests to those participating in official clean-up events with funding through the DEP’s Solid Waste Abatement Fund. Organizers are urging individuals, groups and those involved year-round in the Adopt-A-Highway program to volunteer. Information can be found online at www.gacofpa.org.
In 2013, the Great American Clean-up resulted in the collection of 6.1 million pounds of litter by more than 137,000 Pennsylvania volunteers.
