Police officials in Venango County say a local man was scammed out of $1,000 late last week after a phone call in which he was told that his grandson who lives in Pittsburgh was in trouble in Houston, Texas and needed money.

It was only after the victim wired the money that he discovered that his grandson was fine, and in fact, was still in Pittsburgh.

Law enforcement officials are warning local residents about such telephone scams, and urge you to double-check the supposed “facts” in such a case, and report any such solicitation which may sound suspicious.
