Pens Win Last Home Preseason Game In A Shootout Over Chicago

September 24, 2013

Kris Letang forced overtime by scoring two third-period goals, and teammates James Neal and Sidney Crosby scored goals in a 2-0 shootout, as the Pittsburgh Penguins posted a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks in their final home preseason game played Monday night at Consol Energy Center.

The Pens (2-3) had fallen behind on a pair of second-period goals by Chicago’s Bryan Bickell, one shorthanded and the second on a power play.  Letang put Pittsburgh on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal midway through the final period, and tied the game on a power play shot with 2:26 remaining in regulation.

Jeff Zatkoff earned the win in goal, stopping 30 of 32 shots.

Pittsburgh will play their final preseason game on Wednesday night in Detroit, and will start the regular season on Thursday, October 3 with a home contest against the New Jersey Devils.
