Pens Win In A Shootout Over Columbus

December 22, 2017

Kris Letang ended an extended hockey game in Pittsburgh on Thursday night by scoring in the fourth round of a shootout, giving the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 victory over visiting Columbus.

The win moved the Penguins (18-15-3) to within one point of being back in the NHL’s Eastern Conference playoff picture.

Patric Hornqvist and Evgeni Malkin both scored in regulation play for Pittsburgh, and winning goaltender Matt Murray made 29 saves.  Both of the Penguins’ scores came on power play opportunities after the Pens had gone 0-for-15 on such chances in recent games.

Artemi Patarin and Pierre-Luc Dubois both tallied a goal and an assist for the Blue Jackets (21-13-2), who have lost four of their last six games, but are only one point out of first place in the Metropolitan Division.  Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made 39 stops in 41 opportunities.

Pittsburgh will host Anaheim (15-13-8) on Saturday night.  Radio pregame time on 96.3 KQW will be 6:30 PM.
