Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 26 shots for his sixth career postseason shutout, and Pascal Dupuis scored twice as the Pittsburgh Penguins opened NHL Stanley Cup Playoff play with a 5-0 home win over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
Beau Bennett, Kris Letang and Tanner Glass also scored goals for Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin, Jarome Iginla and Jussi Jokinen all tallied two assists.
The Islanders’ starting goaltender, Evgeni Nabokov, allowed four goals in the game’s first 22 minutes before giving way to backup Kevin Poulin.
The second game of the best-of-seven series will be played Friday night at 7:00 PM at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Radio pregame airtime on 96.3 KQW is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
