Pens Return Home To Beat Arizona 3-1

November 8, 2017
By

Justin Schultz and Evgeni Malkin both scored in the first four minutes of the game on Tuesday night, and the Pittsburgh Penguins advanced to a 3-1 home victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

Having just returned from a 1-3-1 road trip, the Penguins improved to 5-0-1 at home and took over sole possession of first place in the NHL Metropolitan Division.

Schultz found the net just 59 seconds into his first game back after missing six contests due to a concussion.  Phil Kessel also scored for Pittsburgh (9-6-2), and Matt Murray made 24 saves.  Murray is now 9-3-1.

Following a 1-12-1 start in which they tallied only three league points in fourteen games, the Coyotes – led by former Pittsburgh player and coach Rick Tocchet – had just recorded both a win and an overtime loss before heading to the Steel City.  The only goal Tuesday for Arizona (2-13-2) was tallied by Tobias Rieder.  Coyotes goaltender Antti Raanta stopped 34-of-37 shots.

After having played 11 of their first 17 games away from home, the Penguins find themselves going onto the road for three of their next four contests.  They play at Washington (8-7-1) on Friday night.  Radio pregame time on 96.3 KQW will be 6:30 PM.
