Gustav Nyquist scored twice, and Jimmy Howard stopped 37-of-38 shots as the Detroit Red Wings bested the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 in an NHL game played on New Year’s Eve in Detroit.
Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielsen also tallied goals for Detroit (15-16-7). The Penguins, meanwhile, were held to two or fewer goals for the sixth time in their last nine games.
Evgeni Malkin recorded the only goal for the Penguins (19-18-3). Goaltender Matt Murray, who had missed the previous game with an injury, faced only 23 shots-on-goal, but made just 19 stops.
The Penguins will close out a three-game road trip on Tuesday night, taking on the Flyers in Philadelphia.
