Jon Merrill scored his first game of the season with 11:43 left to go on Thursday night, snapping a 1-1 tie and giving the expansion Vegas Golden Knights a 2-1 home victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins in Las Vegas.

Former Penguin James Neal also scored for Vegas (20-9-2), and Ian Cole tallied the only goal for Pittsburgh (16-14-3).

Another former Pittsburgh player, Marc-Andre Fleury (6-4-1), was the winning goaltender, stopping 24-of-25 shots.  The Pens’ Matt Murray (11-8-1) also made 24 saves, but took the loss.

The Penguins will continue their road trip on Saturday evening against the Arizona Coyotes.  Radio pregame airtime on 96.3 KQW will be 7:30 PM.
