Pens Edge Expansion Golden Knights 5-4; Former Pens Goaltender Fleury Takes The Loss

The Pittsburgh Penguins scored three times in the second period Tuesday night, and added a pair of goals in the final frame to beat the expansion Vegas Golden Knights and former Pens goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury 5-4 in NHL play at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Trailing 2-0 after one period, the Pens got second-period goals from Ryan Reaves, Ian Cole and Jake Guentzel to take a 3-2 lead after two frames.  Evgeni Malkin scored his 30th goal for the sixth time in his NHL career, and Phil Kessel tallied his 24th, giving Pittsburgh a 5-2 advantage with 13:40 remaining in the game.

Matt Murray (18-12-1) earned the win, stopping 21-of-25 goals.  As for Fleury, he made 33 saves in 38 chances to fall to 15-5-2.

Scoring for Western Conference leader Vegas (35-14-4) were William Karlsson, former Penguin James Neal, Ryan Carpenter and Jonathan Marchessault.

Pittsburgh (30-22-3) will play at Dallas on Friday night at 8:30 PM (EST).  The game will be carried in progress by 96.3 KQW following the high school basketball game between Oil City and Farrell.
