The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Friday morning that team captain Sidney Crosby will return for Friday night’s second game of their NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs opening-round series against the New York Islanders.
Crosby missed the final 12 games of the regular season and the first game of the Islanders series after suffering a broken jaw in a game on March 30. He returned to practice on April 26.
Crosby was leading the National Hockey League in scoring with 56 points at the time of his injury, and finished in a tie for third place, four points behind scoring champ Martin St. Louis, of Tampa Bay.
The Penguins reported that only James Neal and Brooks Orpik missed Friday’s morning skate.
