Pennsylvania’s Little League (11-12 year-old) champions have started the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament in Bristol, Connecticut with wins in both of their first two games.
The tournament winner advances to the Little League World Series, which will once again be held in South Williamsport.
The Taney All-Stars, from West Philadelphia, are the first Philadelphia city team to win the state title since Pennsylvania champions were first crowned in 1948.
Taney began pool play on Saturday morning with an 11-1 victory over West Salisbury, Maryland, and then defeated Newark, Delaware 8-4 on Sunday morning.
After an off-day Monday, the Pennsylvania champions will take on the Colonie All-Stars, from Albany, New York, on Tuesday night and will conclude pool play Wednesday evening against Northwest Washington, D.C.
The top four teams following the conclusion of pool play will advance to the tournament’s semifinals.
