The next ramped-up traffic safety enforcement effort you may expect to encounter will be called the I-80 Challenge and will involve state highway patrols from California to New Jersey wherever Interstate 80 runs.

The Pennsylvania State Police will join the highway safety effort from July 24 until July 31.

State Police spokesperson Michelle McGee says the operation was conceived by the Iowa Department of Public Safety following an in-depth study of several years worth of data which showed that this time of the year is the deadliest on the nationwide highway.

The goal of this year’s “More Cops, More Stops” operation is zero fatalities on Interstate 80 during the eight-day enforcement.
