A state Senator from southeastern Pennsylvania said Thursday he will introduce legislation in Harrisburg that would legalize marijuana in the state.
Democratic Senator Daylin Leach, whose constituents live in Montgomery and Delaware counties, says his bill would legalize the use of marijuana for those 21 and older, but prohibit its sale to minors. Leach says the drug would be regulated much as alcohol is, and that users would still be prosecuted for driving while under the influence of marijuana and for being publicly intoxicated through its use.
Leach says the move would reduce street crime and ensure the safety of legally-purchased marijuana.
Republican Governor Tom Corbett has come out against the legalization of marijuana, even for medicinal purposes.
