The 102nd Pennsylvania Farm Show opens Saturday (Jan. 6) and continues through January 13 at the Farm Show Complex near Harrisburg.
The Farm Show is billed as the country’s largest indoor agricultural exposition under one roof. Nearly 6,000 animals, about 10,000 competitions and around 300 commercial exhibits are featured each year. Show organizers point out that the agriculture industry employs about a half-million people in the state, and contributes $185 billion annually to Pennsylvania’s economy.
On opening day, a public forum will allow lawmakers and other state officials to hear directly from farmers and others involved with agriculture about the Farm Bill and agriculture policy. Hosted by Congressman Glenn Thompson, Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding and other Congressman from the state will make up the panel. The group will also tour the Farm Show Complex to learn about new technology and innovations available to the agriculture community.
