State Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch says PennDOT has unveiled a series of four new videos, available on YouTube, which are aimed at promoting awareness about pedestrian safety.

The videos are intended for elementary and middle school students, their parents, and young or first-time drivers.  They target various stages of learning about pedestrian safety or driver safety around pedestrians.

PennDOT data shows that, in the past five years, there were 743 pedestrian deaths and 4,558 pedestrian injuries involved in Pennsylvania traffic incidents.  Overall, during that time, there were more than 22,000 traffic incidents where pedestrians were involved.  About 7,000 involved pedestrians 18 years or younger.

Of the 743 pedestrians who died, 86 were 18 years or younger.

The videos may be viewed at PennDOT’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/pennsylvaniaDOT
