Penn State Wins Season Opener Behind Freshman Quarterback

Christian Hackenberg, just the second true freshman to start a Penn State opener since 1910, shook off two interceptions Saturday to lead the Nittany Lions to a 23-17 victory over visiting Syracuse.

Hackenberg completed 22-of-31 passes for 278 yards with scoring tosses to Allen Robinson and Eugene Lewis.  Sam Ficken kicked three field goals.

Robinson caught seven passes for 133 yards.  Zach Zwinak carried the ball 24 times for Penn State, amassing 61 rushing yards.
