Penguins Win Home-And-Home With Struggling Buffalo

December 3, 2017

The Pittsburgh Penguins swept a home-and-home series with the Buffalo Sabres over the weekend, blanking their opponents 4-0 in Buffalo on Friday night and winning 5-1 in Pittsburgh on Saturday evening.

The pair of wins, Pittsburgh’s third and fourth in a row, moved the Pens (15-10-3) to within two points of first place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division.  For the struggling Sabres (6-17-4), who have the worst record in the league, their lone goal on Saturday snapped a string of eleven-and-a-half periods in which they had been held scoreless.

Rookie goaltender Tristan Jarry recorded his first NHL shutout on Friday night, getting goals from Tom Kuhnhackl, Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist.  He stopped all 34 shots he faced.

Jarry (4-0-2) was 32-for-33 in save opportunities on Saturday, allowing only a third-period goal to Jason Pominville – the Sabres’ first score since the day after Thanksgiving.  Crosby, Hornqvist, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel and Carl Hagelin scored for Pittsburgh.

The Pens will host the New York Rangers (14-10-2) on Tuesday at 7:30 PM (EST).  Radio pregame airtime on 96.3 KQW will be 7:00 PM.
