The Pittsburgh Penguins came within four minutes and 54 seconds of their second straight shutout on Saturday night, and finished with 1 4-1 home win over the Buffalo Sabres (0-3).
Chris Kunitz recorded a goal on a penalty shot for the Penguins (2-0), and Sidney Crosby, Craig Adams and Chuck Kobasew all scored for the second straight game.
Marc-Andre Fleury (2-0) stopped 20 of 21 shots, and only a late score by Thomas Vanek kept him from recording his second consecutive shutout. Fleury has been named the NHL’s “Third Star” for the first week of the season.
The Penguins will complete their season-opening three-game home stand with a 7:00 PM contest against Carolina (1-0-1) on Tuesday. Radio pregame airtime on 96.3 KQW will begin at 6:30 PM.
