Orb Is Early Kentucky Derby Favorite

Twenty horses are ready for Saturday’s 139th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Track oddsmakers have made Florida Derby winner Orb the early 7-2 favorite.  Orb is trained by Shug McGaughey, and will be ridden by Joel Rosario.

Verrazano was listed Thursday at 4-1.  Verrazano’s trainer is Todd Pletcher, and John Velazquez will be his rider.

Goldencents, which won the Santa Anita Derby, was at 5-1.  Goldencents is trained by Doug O’Neil, and will be ridden by Keith Krigger.

Black Onyx, which was to have been the horse holding the number-1 post was announced Friday morning as a “scratch.”

Saturday’s post time is scheduled for 6:24 PM.
