In a holiday travel period in which their statistics were confined to two days, the Pennsylvania State Police report that one person died and 86 were injured in crashes their troopers investigated over the New Years travel period, recorded as travel on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
By comparison, ten deaths and 172 injuries were reported over a four-day New Years travel period last year.
This year, troopers made 184 D-U-I arrests and cited 1,884 drivers for speeding.
Over the five-day Christmas holiday travel period, the State Police reported seven deaths and 315 injuries.
The numbers cover only those incidents covered by the State Police, and do not include statistics from other law enforcement agencies.
