Despite holding one lead in the opening seconds of the game and another at halftime, the Oil City Oilers dropped a 31-21 home decision to the General McLane Lancers on Friday night. The Franklin Knights, meanwhile, were 42-0 losers at Lakeview.
Oil City (2-1) led 7-0 after Frank Serbati returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and 14-10 at the intermission following a 65-yard TD run by Serbati. But, General McLane’s Tyler Sanders, who rushed for 212 yards, scored three times on the ground in the second half to seal the win for the visiting Lancers.
Zach Fox threw a 17-yard scoring pass to Lancers teammate Evan Dillen, and Dillen kicked a 22-yard field goal. The Oilers’ final score came on a one-yard keeper by backup quarterback Jackson McFall with 3:51 remaining in the game.
Oil City will travel to DuBois next Friday for a key 7:00 PM Region 5 game. Coverage on 96.3 KQW will begin at 6:00 PM.
In the loss by Franklin (1-2), Lakeview’s Blake Reddick rushed for an amazing 299 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. in addition, he picked off two passes on defense. Zach Van Dusen,and Marquis Spence also carried the ball for scores for the Sailors (3-0), and Austin Rice scored on a kickoff return.
Reddick has broken the Lakeview career rushing yardage record of 4,008 held by Deke Ison, and now stands at 4,249 yards. Reddick became the 20th District 10 runner to reach 4,000 yards. Only three have ever made it to 5,000.
On Friday, Franklin will host the team that just defeated Route 8 rival Oil City, the General McLane Lancers.
