An Oil City woman was sentenced in Venango County Court to nine months to two years in jail in a case prompted by the discovery of injuries sustained by a one year-old child nearly two years ago.

33 year-old Christine Silvis was also sentenced to three years probation following her guilty plea to a charge of endangering the welfare of a child, and an additional two years probation for filing false information in the case.  After six months of her sentence, Silvis could be eligible to spend the remainder of her term on house arrest.

Silvis was investigated after officials at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh reported in October, 2011 that a one year-old boy had suffered injuries consistent with abusive head trauma, also called “shaken baby syndrome.”  She was originally charged with aggravated assault, a count that was dismissed in a plea bargain.
