State Police officials told KQW on Wednesday morning that they have been called in to aid in an investigation into a Tuesday night shooting death in Oil City.
The State Police announcement followed a report that a woman was shot and killed by Oil City Police shortly after 9:00 PM Tuesday at a location on the 400-block of Central Avenue on Oil City’s South Side. Initial information indicated that city officers had responded to a report that a woman with emotional issues was wielding a knife. On Wednesday afternoon, investigators identified the victim as 68 year-old Marilyn Peterson, from Oil City. It is believed that Peterson was shot after she threatened a police officer with the knife.
An autopsy on the body was scheduled for Wednesday.
A State Police spokesperson said more information will be released as it can be made available.
