An Oil City man has entered a guilty plea to a charge of simple assault in Venango County Court in a case in which he was accused of stabbing another man in the arm.

20 year-old Marquise McCool was accused of stabbing James Goodman outside a residence on East Fourth Street in Oil City at about 3:00 AM on the first of June.  In a plea bargain, charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, harassment and disorderly conduct were dismissed.

Testimony in a Monday hearing revealed that Goodman had investigated an argument outside his home which turned out to be between McCool and a woman.  Police say McCool transferred his hostilities toward Goodman, and Goodman was injured when McCool started flailing through the air with a kitchen knife.

McCool will be sentenced on October 31.
