An Oil City man faces charges for an alleged physical assault on a woman sources have identified as his mother.

Police in Oil City say the attack occurred late Sunday afternoon at a residence on Jefferson Street in their city.  A combined force of Oil City and Sugarcreek Borough police officers, the State Police and an area constable apprehended suspect Alex Langill some five hours later at a location on Route 8 in Cherrytree Township.

Langill is accused of having choked the victim for a lengthy period of time until a neighbor attempted to intervene.  He is reported to have fled the scene when the neighbor called police.

Charges include aggravated assault.  Langill was lodged in lieu of bail in the Venango County Jail.
