An Ohio man was formally arraigned in Clarion County last week in the death of a 6 month-old boy in his care at a campsite in the northern part of the county last Labor Day weekend.
Investigators say 22 year-old Chad Chadwick, from Ashtabula, and the infant’s aunt had taken weekend custody of the baby and two other children for the children’s parents, who live in Geneva, Ohio. The youngsters were taken to a camp off Marble-Strobleton Road in Washington Township.
Police say the youngest of the three children, six month-old Zeke Hamilton, was later found in a child seat in a car, and had suffered injuries to his head, chest and arms. The boy was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, spent eleven weeks in a coma and died on November 15.
Chadwick and the baby’s aunt, 23 year-old Kelly Hemminger, also from Ashtabula, were later arrested, charged and jailed in Ohio.
Chadwick was arraigned late last week on charges of criminal homicide, conspiracy, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and reckless endangerment. Hemminger had also faced numerous charges, but prosecutors say through the course of the investigation, those charges have been whittled down to one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
