The nomination process for the 2013 Oil Heritage Region Historic Preservation Awards has opened.
The program recognizes rehabilitation and restoration efforts during the past five years involving structures that are at least fifty years old. Any structure in the Oil Heritage Region, including all of Venango County, and Titusville, Oil Creek Township and Hydetown Borough in Crawford County, is eligible to receive an award, and anyone may submit a nomination.
Eligible structures include commercial, residential, industrial, public, religious and other properties, and nominations may be made for either interior or exterior work. A new category, Adaptive Reuse, has been added this year. It is defined as the process which adapts buildings for new uses while retaining their key historic features.
Nomination forms are available at the Elm Street (Oil City) office of the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry and Tourism and at area libraries. Nominations are due by March 31. They should be delivered or mailed to the Oil Region Alliance.
