PennDOT says the new McClintock Bridge over Oil Creek just north of Oil City is now open for traffic.
The 370 foot-long span taking Route 8 across Oil Creek replaces an 82 year-old bridge that was considered structurally deficient. The new structure is eleven feet wider than the old bridge.
The road was closed and a detour was posted in April when construction work began. The originally planned opening date had been set at October 15, but work was suspended on three occasions due to the discovery of complications such as methane gas and petroleum deposits.
