Second-ranked Rafael Nadal won his 13th Grand Slam tennis title on Monday, defeating top seed Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the men’s singles final at the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadow.
Nadal has now won 22 of the 37 matches he has played against Djokovic. He captured total prize money of $3.6 million.
His 13 major championships, including eight at the French Open, put Nadal in third place all-time, behind Roger Federer’s 17 and Pete Sampras’ 14.
Nadal is 60-3 this year with 10 titles, including two Grand Slam championships, and is 22-0 on hard court surfaces.
