Wil Myers has become the third Tampa Bay player in the last six years to be named American League Rookie-of-the-Year.
Myers, a 22 year-old right fielder, hit .293 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI’s in 88 games after his call-up from the minor leagues in mid-June. In the rookie-of-the-year balloting, he outpolled Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias and his Tampa Bay teammate Chris Archer.
Miami right-hander Jose Fernandez was named National League Rookie-of-the-Year over Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig.
On a 62-100 Marlins team, Fernandez went 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA and 187 strikeouts. He is the fourth Miami rookie-of-the-year in the last 11 seasons.
On Tuesday evening, baseball’s Managers-of-the-Year will be announced.
