A Mercer County judge has ordered a Franklin-area man who is charged with killing his brother-in-law to face trial beginning March 10.
45 year-old Ralph Young is charged with first and third-degree murder, arson and the abuse of a corpse in the death of 58 year-old David Dignall, from the Cochranton area. Dignall’s partially-burned body was found on the ground outside his minivan along Hollobaugh Road in Crawford County’s French Creek Township on December 20, 2012. An autopsy revealed the victim died from a shotgun blast to the back. Prosecutors claim Young shot Dignall and set his body on fire.
Police believe the motive for Young’s alleged actions stemmed from a dispute over property rights.
Young has been jailed since May 13. Last month, Judge Christopher St. John ruled against freeing Young pending his trial.
