A handful of state lawmakers, including a state Representative from McKean County, have renewed an effort to merge the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

State Representative Martin Causer, from Bradford, says the move would result in the elimination of the duplication of commission efforts, and could serve as a budget-cutting measure, instead of making cuts or eliminations of services.

A study conducted in the early part of this century estimated that combining the two commissions could save about five million dollars a year.  Opponents point out that implementation of the study results would also have eliminated more than seventy jobs.
