A motion filed on behalf of a New Jersey man to withdraw his “no contest” pleas in his trial in the deaths of his parents was rejected in Butler County Court last week.

42 year-old Colin Abbott was sentenced in February to 35-to-80 years in prison when he entered the pleas to third-degree murder charges in the deaths of 65 year-old Kenneth Abbott and 55 year-old Celeste Abbott.  Family members had stated that the defendant had told them his parents died in a fiery car crash in New Jersey, but Pennsylvania investigators found the victims’ charred bodies near a pond on their estate in Brady Township just south of Slippery Rock.

On Friday, Butler County Judge William Shaffer ruled that Abbott had failed to prove any injustices that would warrant the removal of his pleas.
