The challenge to the nominating petitions filed by one candidate for the position of Common Pleas Court Judge in Mercer County has been withdrawn.

Challenges to nominating petitions submitted by two other candidates are expected to be reviewed by Commonwealth Court next week.

Court officials have confirmed that the challenge to the nominating petitions filed by Sharon attorney Joann Jofery was withdrawn by the Pittsburgh lawyer who had filed it.  The attorney, James Walsh, represents two Mercer County residents who are also challenging petitions filed by Jim Ryan, from Sharpsville, and Daniel Wallace, from West Salem Township.

The other candidates hoping to appear on the May 21st primary ballot are Ryan Mergl and Victor Heutsche, both from Sharon.

No reason was given for the withdrawal of the Jofery challenge.  It is believed that the challenges are the first for a judicial election in Mercer County.
