Mercer County Keeps Jury Commissioner Positions

Mercer County has decided to buck a growing statewide trend and keep its jury commissioner posts.

The county commissioners voted this week to maintain the county’s two $13,000 jury commissioner positions.

A recent change in statewide law allows for counties to abolish the positions except during an election year.

Venango and Clarion Counties are among the Pennsylvania counties which have already opted to do away with the positions in an era in which supporters say much of the process can be achieved by computer programs and the remaining work can be handled by other county employees.
