A Meadville man was taken to the trauma unit of an Erie hospital after a nearly 30-foot plunge from a Meadville bridge early Thursday morning.

City police say 26 year-old Joseph Thomas apparently jumped from a bridge on Spring Street for some reason shortly after 6:30 AM.  Thomas landed on a highway below the bridge.

Thomas was transported by medical helicopter to Erie.  Hospital officials there have not released details on his condition.

Police have not specified the motive for the jump.
