A Meadville-area man was arraigned Monday on charges in connection with the March 11 fire that destroyed a West Mead Township apartment complex and left the residents of eight apartments homeless.
West Mead Police Department officials say a resident of the complex, 20 year-old Brandon Irwin, a former volunteer firefighter, confessed to starting the fire. The blaze is believed to have begun in Irwin’s apartment.
No one was injured in the fire at the intersection of Route 77 and Leslie Road, east of Meadville.
Following his arraignment, Irwin was lodged in the Crawford County Jail on $150,000 bail. A hearing was scheduled for March 28.
