For the third time in less than a week, a man has died as the result of a motorcycle hitting a deer on a Crawford County highway.  The latest victim was a Venango County man.

State Police from the Corry station say 79 year-old William Wheeling, a Sugarcreek Borough resident, died when his motorcycle struck a deer than ran out in front of him onto Route 8 in Bloomfield Township near Union City.  The fatal incident happened shortly before 10:00 PM Sunday night.

Accident investigators say Wheeling died even though he had been wearing a helmet.  He was thrown from his motorcycle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dirt track racer for more than five decades, Wheeling was a member of the Twin-State Auto Racing Club, Pittsburgh Circle Track Club and Tri-City Speedway Racing Halls-of-Fame.
