A Seneca man was charged late last week in an incident in which police say some $17,000 in cash was stolen from an impounded vehicle – by someone else who is now deceased.

State Police officials tell 96.3 KQW 39 year-old Barry Stover was arraigned on charges of conspiracy, theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

Investigators allege that Stover and another man stopped a vehicle along Route 257, and while Stover remained in the vehicle the other man climbed the fence at an impound lot and removed the money from a vehicle owned by a 52 year-old man whose identity police have not released.

Police say the money was later given to Stover.  The man who allegedly scaled the fence has since died.

Stover is free on bail and faces a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
